The Irish girl in me has long been fascinated by the concept of thin places, a Celtic name for locations where the veil between physical and spiritual realities is so slim that a person can see through it. For me, thin places are revelations, bridges between the seen and unseen elements of our lives. Read my books and journey with me into the mysterious places where the spiritual world intersects what is familiar to us, and changes it forever.--Erin Healy
The Baker's Wife examines lives intersecting ~*~ merging past and present, then and now. Diane Hall comes to the bakery to find what she has left behind. Jack Mansfield comes to the bakery to seek answers to what he too has lost. His life as he knows it. His job. His wife. His daughter.
The bakery actually is in operation because of Jack. He became an influential deciding factor in dismissing his former pastor, now the bakery owner! An avocation now a vocation, Geoff and Audrey Bofinger have expanded their relaxing Tuesdays forming loaves out of flour, water, salt and yeast into the daily community bakery, Rise and Shine.
Through an early morning tule fog like pea soup, Audrey and their son, Ed, are on the way to the bakery. Almost there, they collide with a motor scooter Ed identifies as belonging to a school teacher, Julie Mansfield, Jack's wife. Slippery, sticky blood on the pavement, a smashed bike and not finding the rider in the dense fog sends everyone on the search.
As a city detective, Jack is withdrawn from the case. He has a little more problems than this scenario warrants and I suspect this did not put him over the edge. He is a defensive person and unlikely he was close to his family to begin with before this outcome to his despair. Audrey is joined by Diane, and Jack and Julie's daughter, Miralee, to find the answer to Julie's disappearance.
