Eleven facts from Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House

1. I absolute love it here on our hilltop at Lane Hill House! Sitting on the porch in the early morning with a tall cup of tea and the song of birds is refreshing. When we drive up our lane, I tell my husband, "I just love it here!" So thankful.
2. Here is the confirmation Scripture my husband shared when we were considering moving 10-1/2 hours away to be in the middle of our adult children in three states when we retired. It has been such a blessing to be here.
And we named our hilltop home, "Lane Hill House."
Matthew 5:14-16 The Message
"Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven."
3. We had three cats who perished of old age at 17, 18, and 19 years old. They outlived the time our children were home. NO MORE CATS ~ my husband says. Sadness. This was shared on Facebook yesterday:

There you go ~ I get books to review in my packages!
4. I like to drink hot milk with a scoop and a half of Mystic Spiced Chai from Sam's topped with Reddi Wip® and cinnamon and nutmeg sprinkled on top.
5. My very favorite color is purple ~ the blue purple not red purple Wardrobe Essentials: The Color Wheel
6. I am a competitive game player; teaches me to be patient, strategic, and a gracious loser and winner. I say to my husband, "It doesn't bother you when you lose."
7. I like laughter and joy.
8. I enjoy both being alone and being with friends.
9. Two of my daughters and I play Scrabble® together through Facebook. If I don't play mine for a few days they check on me. They also win most of the time, and I taught them how to play when they were younger.
10. I am a Christ-follower.
11. I am detailed in descriptions.

Following are the questions I was asked by Sue W. at Thoughts from Mill Street and my answers.

1. Why did you start blogging? I began Lane Hill House blog the end of January of 2011, with observations around me. In April that year I began to share book reviews with other readers.
2. What was your most memorable vacation? Our week at Door County, WI, Chalet in the Woods with our two youngest daughters. So much fun. Our oldest made foil-wrapped hobo pies for us inside the fireplace, so yummy. It rained and we played board games and read. They giggled and went on a secret venture to get supplies to bake me a cherry pie from our tree-picking. I didn't mention the occasional pits!
3. Dine in or dine out? Casual or fancy? I prefer eating our homemade food; dining out ~ prefer casual with friends.
4. Best read of 2014 so far? That's a hard one since I have read and reviewed over fifty stories. I like to see growth in the characters, and one leaving you thinking after you have closed the last page. Historical fiction is my very favorite genre. Appreciate the research the authors do to place their characters within the events/happenings of the times. I'll go with a light-hearted one ~ Siri Mitchell's Love Comes Calling ~ http://lanehillhouse.blogspot.com/2014/05/love-comes-calling-by-siri-mitchell-2014.html, and... The Quilted Heart by Mona Hodgson http://lanehillhouse.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-quilted-heart-three-novellas-in-one.html. These novellas preceded Prairie Song, a story I had already read and enjoyed.
5. Do you belong to a book club? No, but a lot of us are reviewing the same books and I enjoy reading these other reviews too!
6. What is your earliest reading memory? Heidi. The beginning of my "visual"-reader memory ~ the sights and smells ~ visiting Peter, the young goatherder, on the mountain tops, and the bakery ~*~ passing it in Frankfurt.
7. Do you listen to audio books? No ~ get distracted and have to go back and relisten; prefer to have a print book to take with me.
8. What do you think is the best movie adaptation of a book? Janette Oke's stories.
9. When not reading, how do you spend your time? I go to two back-to-back hour exercise classes at the Y on M-W-F; aerobics and stretching. Thursday morning Bible study and out for lunch together afterward. My husband and I play Ticket to Ride boardgames, and Phase10 and Hand and Foot cards. Quilting and my fabric stash of 100% cotton. I like to go to antique and resale stores ~ if it is shrunk or faded, it already is and get one-of-a-kind. I look for jackets and linen clothing ~ can be worn in any season.
10. Do you have a goal to learn something new this year or try a new activity? What? I love what I am doing ~ not enough hours it seems. I have cut back on my reviewing to catch up on my TBRs (to-be-read). Walking outside more and quilting are returning activities and half the year has gone by already!
11. If you came to my house, would rather have tea and homemade pie or coffee and dark chocolate? Sue, I would love for you to serve me tea and homemade pie ~ any kind. I attended a wonderful Cinderella and her prince wedding on Saturday, and they had a wide assortment of p-i-e. We would need to have a fabric sharing swap together! I scrap quilt my favorite s*t*a*r*s so I don't need real big pieces.
