The protagonist chooses to carry a child for a barren couple. She has three choices of a match and selects a vineyard owner and his wife in France. They oddly, I thought, carried on a close relationship, emailing and visiting prior to the birth. The story is written in first person. Near the end, I would have liked to have heard the thoughts of the husband and wife receiving the baby; especially the wife's.
Beyond a job to supplement their income, Mandy is to be uninvolved about the child she is carrying as she is the supplier. She had her mind make up before going to her husband and family with her plan that would only take a year out of their lives. But our days are not our own, and unexpected results follow.
I liked the closeness of Mandy's husband's family and their acceptance of all within their doorway. Cooking together and sharing meals enriched the lives of the family members.
The content covers topics not often discussed. Although well-written and researched, I think too much was given away before getting too far into the novel.
